Lawyer Profile

Carla Courtenay was born in New Brunswick, Canada, and has resided in several communities in North America. She was educated at the University of British Columbia (B.A.), Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey (M.Div.), McGill University (LL.B.) and the Universite de Sherbrooke (B.C.L.) She was called to the Barreau du Quebec in 1982 and the Bar of the Province of British Columbia in 1985.
Ms.Courtenay is an experienced advocate before all levels of the civil Courts in British Columbia. She articled at a large full service law firm. From 1985 to 1990 she worked in a small law firm focussed on civil and commercial litigation. In 1991 she opened her own law office in family law and litigation. She has been active in the Canadian Bar Association throughout her career, and was on the executive committee of the Family Law Section in Vancouver from 1990 to 1999. She was an elected member of the Executive Committee of the National Family Law Section from 1998 to 2003.
Carla is an avid traveler, and participates in sea kayaking, mountain hiking and canoeing. She reads widely and is an enthusiastic student of the piano. She has served on a number of committees and boards in the voluntary sector of the Vancouver community.
